I’m now a Twidiot, twit or was it twat? I’ve finally decided to join twitter. The reasoning? well, because I found it a useful way to obtain updates and news on things which I like. It provides a more convenient method compared to visiting each site on a daily basis.
So, what am I using to tweet? Well, after much playing around I’ve settled for Twitterrific on the iPhone (also available in a desktop client). Twitterrific in my opinion is the most elegantly designed twitter app for the iPhone and is easy to use. I tried Tweetdeck, but it just looks too technical. I had a look at all the other twitter apps available on the AppStore but didn’t like the UI of any, regardless of functionality. Yes, I am a sucker for a good looking UI.
update 20th August – Well, Apple finally chose to approve Twitterrific 2.1 for the iPhone. There are some nice and notable changes, but one that lacks in my opinion is the way tweets are displayed. I’d like to see some adjustments for the small mode, currently they are text based with the author barely distinguishable.
Here is a quick mock up in Photoshop to show some potential ways tweets could be displayed. The second row is how tweets are currently displayed in small mode. I might also pass this mock up onto iconfactory and see what they say. Maybe something similar can be included in a future update.
