Valkyrie

On Sunday night I watched Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise. I guess the movie was kind of already spoiled for me as I knew about the various assassination attempts on Hilter’s life thanks to watching National Geographic’s 42 ways to kill Hitler, and you thought cats had a few lives too many?

I think Cruise played an exceptional role but found the movie a bit weird – as technically it is German based story, but with English dialogue. To me it loses that authentic feeling about it. For an example of what I’m referring to, check out Der Untergang aka Downfall, movie trailer here.

I also found it interesting to see that so many people in powerful positions throughout Berlin were actually against Hitler and his regime to such an extent that they wanted to assassinate him. I guess people who aren’t into History or WWII wouldn’t have known about such plots, so this movie probably is beneficial in the fact it sheds some light on the story to the public through a mainstream medium.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” – Edmund Burke (1729 – 1797)
